Eleven of the thirteen Wild Women who will depart Australia in 5 weeks time to climb Kilimanjaro, met up from all corners of the country this weekend for a gruelling 60km all night training walk. The walk was designed to simulate the summit night challenge on our final ascent up Kilimanjaro. Our training Wild Walk took us from Manly to the City and back, starting at 10pm on Saturday night, and finishing back at the start 15.5 hours later. Despite cold winds, blisters and sore feet, the team banded together and the twilight hours were filled with many a joke and many encouraging words and gestures. In true Wild Women style, even a locked gate did not deter us from our course. Without a moments hesitation, we climbed up and assisted each other over the spikes to continue on our way. Our 60km route took us through and along some of the most exquisite bush and coastal tracks that Sydney Harbour has to offer. The photographs and the testimonials below say it all:
What a fantastic night/day! I loved it, and was thoroughly impressed by the support each and every one of us provided at some point to another member of our wonderful team. Waking up this morning with tired feet, knees on fire and very sore calves and shins, I wanted to do only one thing: put my feet in my hiking boots, and get going. That’s how good it was! (Be, NSW)
Can't believe what we just did. What an amazing weekend with an amazing focussed group of women. I enjoyed the weekend immensely and congratulate you all. I am indeed blessed to be realising a dream with such a fantastic team of women. To all of you thank you. (Elly, VIC)
Well, what a fantastic weekend and such great company. I am so looking forward to our huge adventure together.... (Helen, NSW)
